shepherds pie

This is my variation on the traditional shepherds pie that people love. I've used the cheaper cut of meat and added a few ingredients.

This is what I used in the shepherds pie.

One piece of the neck of lamb.

100 grams of chicken livers.

1 small onion

flour to thicken the gravy.

salt and pepper

Worcester sauce

potatoes

1 carrot

cheddar cheese

small bunch of thyme

a pint of chicken stock

Mash is ready

Method

Firstly cut the onion into thick rings. Place the neck on top of the rings. Add the diced up livers. Add salt and pepper and a good splash of Worcester sauce. Cut the carrot into rings and place them around the meat. Sprinkle a tablespoonful of flour over it all. Add the chicken stock. Preheat the oven to full heat and place the covered dish in the centre of the oven. After half an hour, reduce the heat to the lowest setting and cook for three hours. Meanwhile boil the potatoes until soft in the middle. Allow to cool, then add chopped thyme and some cheddar cheese. Mash this all together. Add some milk or cream to the mash.

After the three hours cooking, spread the mash over the succulent meats and gravy. Add more grated cheese and place under the grill until golden. The shepherds pie melts in the mouth.
