Fast Food Furniture

Record fast food
Fast Food. No, I'm not talking about the stuff you get from restaurants, I'm talking about furniture, a table of food that has a motor attached and does 130m.p.h. Think I'm kidding?
Perry Watkins of Buckinghamshire, England set a new world record for the fastest piece of furniture in September 2010. First he bought a 1994 Reliant Scimitar Sabre sports car with a three point five litre V8 engine, then he took the body off it and built a metal frame around the chassis. The frame was hinged upwards to allow Perry to sit in the driving position and lower the frame to lock it in place around him.
Record breaker
Then the work started on making the table, fixing the cutlery in the place settings on the tablecloth and securing the bread, fruit, roast chicken and vegetables to the table top. It was complete when four chairs had been fixed to the sides and the bottle of champagne in an ice bucket, along with glasses was also secured to the top. A dummy racing driver in full racing kit was positioned at the head of the table, with Perry sitting lower down in the driving position. Above Perry's head was the roast chicken. Fast Food was now ready to challenge the existing world record of 92 m.p.h. set by Ed China in his racing sofa. It had taken almost a year to build.
The engine had been stripped and modified, incorporating a method of injecting nitrous oxide to boost the thrust, and to give it the car its world beating speed.
The world record was broken by Perry and Fast Food at the Santa Pod race track in Northamptonshire. Over two runs Fast Food averaged 113.8 m.p.h.
This is not the first world record that Perry has broken. He also holds the world records for the Smallest Car and for the Lowest Car, see below in my other hubs.
